CHOC receives R250 000 donation from Cape Town mayor’s office

The CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation received a R250 000 donation from the Office of the Executive Mayor on Monday, September 7.

Ward 60 councillor Mark Kleinschmidt, together with community liaison officer Aslam Richards, who represents Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, delivered the cheque to CHOC at its Sybrand Park home and provincial head office.

Supporting cancer care in the community

Kleinschmidt said the ward is home to a diverse community, where many residents have had a family member affected by cancer.

“The CHOC Foundation is doing sterling work throughout the Western Cape, and that is why we feel that we should annually support this foundation,” he said.

According to a statement from the Mayor’s office, CHOC provides essential support to children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer, many of whom come from disadvantaged and outlying communities with limited access to specialised healthcare.

“Through critical services such as accommodation, transport assistance, psychosocial support, and daily care, CHOC ensures that no child is denied life-saving treatment due to financial or logistical barriers,” the statement said.

Donation to strengthen CHOC services

CHOC regional manager Lynette Muthuray said the donation will assist CHOC in providing free accommodation services, a transport fund, nutritional support, financial bereavement support, and social work services to children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer.
