Four titles decided at Fight Island boxing event

Fight Island continued its upward trajectory, delivering world-class boxing shows with its latest instalment.

With four titles on the line, headlined by Khaya Mlata against Hassan Milanzi for the WBC International Silver title in the super bantamweight division, the night was a boxing extravaganza.

Mlata earned the title with a stoppage win, while Joshua Feldman claimed the WBF Africa super welterweight belt after outpointing Emile Brits.

Grey Chimwukuplo won the WBF Africa lightweight title after he stopped Tristen Naidoo. 

In the only female bout of the evening, Caleigh Swart claimed the WBF International title after securing a split-decision victory over Asandiswa Nxokwana.

Swart overcomes tough challenge for gold

Swart had to work hard for her victory, as her opponent proved a worthy challenger and took the fight to her. But this is the stuff champions are made of, rising above adversity right when it matters most.

At the end of the fight, Swart described it as the type of bout she wanted, as it kept her busy throughout.

“I wasn’t expecting that from her. She made me think, she made me work. It was a good fight and a relief to finally get this belt,” she said.

Swart wants more ring action

Swart was initially slated to fight for the South African title, but that fell through at the last minute. That could now be something on the cards again for her after adding the WBF belt to her collection.

She said she would ideally like to be back in action before the end of the year as she looks to get more activity in the ring.

Whether it is for another title or not, her main focus is to remain active and get more fights under her belt.
